Pistolera is socially conscious Brooklyn based Latin fusion band lead by the incredible Sandra Velasquez. Austinites may remember Pistolera from their 2008 Pachanga Fest performance at Waterloo Park. Their sound is a rooted in traditional Latin American folk music that features accordion, guiro, guitar and jarana. Pistolera is must listen for fans of Los Lobos, Lila Downs, La Santa Cecilia and Linda Ronstadt. Pistolera is currently on tour in support of their new album, El Desierto Y La Ciudad.
The group recently released a new music video for their single “El Desierto Y La Ciudad.” Directed by Haroun Ibn-Mock, the music video was filmed entirely in the Mojave Desert outside of Joshua Tree, California. The video shows the band arriving to a private desert cabin after a long night of performing. The video serves as a perfect backdrop for a song that talks about the beauty and struggle of living in the city and desert.
