This past May in Austin, Fiesta Gardens played host to the fourth annual Pachanga Fest. The one day music festival features the best of Austin’s Latin music scene as well as a plethora of eclectic touring acts from all over the world. One of those eclectic touring acts this year was New York based Chico Mann. His unique style merges elements of freestyle, Afrobeat, hip hop and Latin rhythms. The Cuban-American, whose real name is Marcos Garcia, is also a member of the popular New York based Afrobeat collective, Antibalas.
During Pachanga Fest, Austin Vida’s Ian Morales and our friends from Blastro caught up with Chico Mann for an in-depth interview. We felt that explaining what Chico Mann is all about and what his music sounds like would be best conveyed with video. Watch the video interview below to learn how Chico Mann classifies his style of music, how he came to be a member of Antibalas and to learn why he likes performing for Latinos.
