Suns of Orpheus (S.O.O.) formed in Austin, Texas in the summer of 2011. Lead by the dynamic Frederico Geib, frontman of local Brazilian funk band Os Alquimistas and the more soulful F7 & The Hashashin, the S.O.O. is Geib’s self-labeled “pschedelic world music” band. This Saturday night, July 16, S.O.O. is releasing their debut self-tiled EP at Mohawk.
The EP was recorded at The Pirate Studio in Austin and includes five songs that features both Portuguese and English lyrics. The group’s music fuses elements of roots reggae, funk, rock, Brazilian rhythms and tropicália. Copies of the EP will be available at the show. S.O.O. perform at 10:30pm.
Following S.O.O. are the popular Latino gypsy-punk outfit, La Guerrilla. Be ready to stay late as La Guerrilla perform at 12:30am. Martín Perna from Ocote Soul Sounds and Antibalas will be spinning in between sets.
