Preview: Rage Against The Machine tribute at Red 7

June 6, 2011 By Austin Vida Staff

Rage Against The Machine (RATM) is now one of the most controversial and iconic rock bands in history. The Los Angeles based quartet were known almost as much for their leftist political views as they were for their records. While the band may be broken up, reuniting only to play shows that fight against injustices and an occasional music festival, their legacy will live on.

The tribute show era begins in Austin at Red 7 on Thursday, June 30. The line includes some Austin Vida staff favorites, Este Vato (12:45am) and Bombasta (11:45pm). The bands will be coming together to perform some of their RATM favorites as well as perform some of their own original music. Baby Got Bacteria (10:45pm) and Higher Than Why (9:45pm) fill out the bill. Bring your Docs, dreadlocks and black t-shirts as we pay tribute to one of the world’s most inspirational and controversial nu-metal bands.

Watch the music video for which the event was named, “People Of The Sun” below:

Red 7 is located at 611 E. 7th Street. All ages are welcome. Doors open at 9:00pm. $10 cover. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Workers Defense Project and Soul Sessions ATX. Visit the official Facebook event page here and on Do512 here.

  1. Deeyn for Nannie Inez, good living says

Just a few days ago I had a long road trip and Rage Against the Machine played
from my music library. I went nuts! It has been years since I listened to their music and I spent the next hour or so listening to every song they have made. I went between fits of elation and near sobbing “why, why, why Rage?” Can’t you just give us some new tunes?
