Saturday nights were made for letting loose, dancing and having a good time. For fans of Latin music in Austin looking to let loose this weekend, Flamingo Cantina is the place to be Saturday night as three of the region’s best “big bands” take the stage. Be ready to come early and stay late as all three bands on the bill are headliners in their own right.
Opening the night will be Austin based Latin music collective, Huerta Culture. The band fuses elements from Cuban son, salsa, Colombian cumbia and reggae. Huerta Culture member MC Chac Chacvarria calls their style of music “”psichocumbia reggaeska.” We couldn’t agree more.
Following Huerta Culture is the biggest and baddest barrio music collective from San Antonio, Bombasta. Fronted by the dynamic Roberto Livar, Bombasta has been doing it big since 2003. The self-proclaimed “barrio big band” brings the best of hip hop, cumbia, Afrobeat and reggae together to form their own unique sound that translates into one of the best live shows the scene has to offer.
Headlining the night’s showcase is Austin’s best known Afrobeat group, Hardproof Afrobeat. You might recognize some of the members from Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears, but these guys hold their own with Hardproof. They prove Afrobeat is alive and well in the Live Music Capital and Hardproof are a great fit for this showcase. Stay late and hear for them yourself.
