Esquina Tango is an East Austin nonprofit whose mission is to “to build a vibrant and diverse community in East Austin and beyond through culture, health, and dance, with an emphasis on Latino heritage, recreational tango and other Argentine traditions, fostering personal wellness, and promoting understanding of Latino culture”. In the spirit of carrying on that mission, Esquina Tango hosts a popular monthly foreign movie viewing with English subtitles every third Friday of the month. Bring your own (adult) beverage. Popcorn will be provided. This month’s feature movie, Hermano, comes from Venezuela.
About Hermano: Daniel’s an exceptional footballer, a striker. Julio’s the team’s captain, a born leader. They were raised as brothers and play football in their slum, La Ceniza. Daniel dreams to play professional football while Julio feeds the family with dirty money; he has no time to dream. The opportunity of their lives arrives when a football scout invites them to tryout with the city’s best team: Caracas Football Club. But tragedy strikes them. They must choose, on a dirty football pitch, what is more important: family, revenge or the dream of their lives. On this pitch, life is on the line.
Esquina Tango is located at 209 Pedernales St. The movie screening begins at 8:30pm and is scheduled to end at 11:30pm. A $5 donation is suggested.
