Brooklyn based alternative-folk band, Pistolera, mixes socially conscience lyrics to danceable Latin beats that lighten the seriousness of the issues, yet the message is just as strong as the name of the band. The quartet began their career in 2005, since then, their music has taken them to Mexico, Canada and Belgium. They have also shared the stage with Los Lobos, Lila Downs, Ely Guerra and Vieux Farka Touré‘.
Pistolera will release their third album, El Desierto y La Ciudad, on July 12. The album, written in two different locations, tells the journey of moving from the peacefulness of the west to the craziness of New York City. A mix of musical styles perfectly captures the essence of each place with the social lyrics the band is known for. In just a week, Pistolera will begin their tour in Oregon and will finish in Chicago.
