Hip hop may get the second or third look for coverage by Austin media, much like Latino musicians, but the genre is alive and well. Here at Austin Vida, we all know that Latinos are not just contributors to the hip hop scene, but major players. We’ve covered Cypress Hill, B-Real on his solo tour, Chingo Bling and more. This is why we were excited to learn that rapper Immortal Technique will be performing a headlining show in Austin at Mohawk on November 14.
Immortal Technique is not only a rapper but an activist of Afro-Peruvian descent. Born Felipe Andres Coronel in Lima, Peru, Immortal Technique grew up in Harlem, New York. He began rapping during a stint in jail after college and garnering a reputation as a battle rapping force in New York. He later focused on the production aspect of the game and went on to put out multiple releases through Viper Records.
