Known for their annual film festival, Cine Las Americas is a non-profit organization that promotes cross-cultural understanding and growth by educating, entertaining and challenging diverse audiences through film and media arts. After 14 years, the organization has screened more than 1,200 Latino and indigenous films as well as partnered with local schools to create media arts educational programs to serve the minority youth in Austin.
In partnership with Fantastic Fest, Cine Las Americas will be presenting Secuestrados (Kidnapped) as part of the Cine Las Americas Signature Series at the Alamo Drafthouse. Directed by Miguel Ángel Vivas, Secuestrados is a gripping film that tells the story of a prosperous Spanish family whose life changes one horrific night. The family has just moved into a gated community in Madrid when they’re taken hostage by three men. Nothing but torture awaits the family as the criminals try to obtain the most money they can at the expense of human lives.
Secuestrados will be screened at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 5 at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema at the Ritz located at 320 E. 6th St. General admission is $10.
