Cine Las Americas is an Austin based non-profit organization that promotes cross-cultural understanding and growth by educating, entertaining and challenging diverse audiences through film and media arts. Aside from their annual film festival, their programs include partnering with local schools to serve the minority youth in Austin and exhibiting and promoting Latin indigenous films. On Sunday, Sept. 18, the non-profit, will be presenting a free screening of Un Mundo Maravilloso at Takoba Restaurant.

The Mexican film, Un Mundo Maravilloso (A Wonderful World), is a comedic drama directed by Luis Estrada. One night, Juan Pérez, the poorest of the poor, grabs the media’s attention as he climbs up the World Financial Center building and becomes a martyr against globalization. In an effort to protect his candidacy to the presidency of the World Bank, the Minister of Economy makes Pérez’s dream come true by lifting him out of poverty with a house, a car and a job. What started out that night turns into a nightmare for the Minister of Economy as other poor people follow Pérez’s example.

Un Mundo Maravilloso will be screened at 8:00 p.m. Sept. 18 at Takoba located at 1411 East 7th St.
