(8/21) Preview: Café Con Letras presents Oliver Rajamani at Ruta Maya

August 15, 2011 By Austin Vida Staff

The Alianza Cultural Latinoamerica is a community of artists and art lovers who promote Latin American cultural expressions in Austin. The organization seeks to promote Latin American art forms to the Hispanic community in Austin and to spread this knowledge with new generations through initiatives like Café Con Letras, their monthly showcase that brings different art forms to the Latino community.

This month’s Café Con Letras showcase artist is Oliver Rajamani. Hailing from India, this world musician blends traditional Eastern music with contemporary Western music. Rajamani keeps his culture alive by mixing his own style of Roma/Gypsy Flamenco with traditional Tamil music. Aside from singing in English, Spanish, Tamil, Indian and Marwari, he has worked with Grammy winner Glen Velez and the Gypsy Kings, among others.

Rajamani and his ensemble will be performing from 7-10 p.m. on Sunday, August 21 at Ruta Maya located on 3601 S. Congress Ave. Admission is $5 and children under 18 are free. For more information you can call (512) 767-8135 or (512) 698-6324.

Meanwhile, you can watch Oliver Rajamani performing “It’s Storming in Austin, Texas” with Bob Livingston below:
