On Thursday, November 11, Movimiento Rockero will present Velando Las Victimas:Remembering the Victims of Violence in Mexico. This will be a special edition of the monthly showcase according to Kalua lead singer/guitarist, Juan Díaz. ” With the event falling so close to Dia De Los Muertos, we decided to dedicate the night to the memory of all those lives tragically ended by the unspeakable violence in Mexico” said Díaz. Joining Kalua at Beso Cantina this Thursday will be Vitera and Manzalas Malas (Los Bad Apples).
Manzalas Malas open the showcase with their high energy brand of Latin fusion. The group blends cumbia, rap, salsa and electronica with the vocal stylings of new member Victoria Acosta. Manzanas Malas perform at 9:00pm.
Vitera will be bringing their blend of modern rock and Latin rhythms. The Spanglish lyrics sung by frontman and rock violinist Haydn Vitera, the band’s sound is reminiscent of the ’80s Rock en Español and ’90s alternative eras. Performing in support of their latest album ¡Súbete!, Vitera takes the stage at 10:15pm.
Closing the showcase is Austin’s Rock en Español purists, Kalua. Their music fuses American modern rock with Spanish lyrics, creating a classic ’80s Rock en Español sound with a modern edge. After a brief hiatus in 2010, the band has since regrouped with frontman Juan Díaz’s younger brother Sam Díaz on guitar. Stay late as Kalua takes the stage at 11:30pm.
