The Alianza Cultural Latinoamericana is a community of artists and art lovers who promote Latin American cultural expressions in Austin. The organization seeks to promote Latin American art forms to the Hispanic community in Austin and to spread this knowledge with new generations through initiatives like Café Con Letras, their monthly showcase that brings different art forms to the Latino community to maintain cultural ties alive, vibrant and constantly evolving.
This month, Café con Letras will feature Ensamble la Mision, a family quintet that plays a variety of ethnic and traditional instruments to produce eclectic and international music. After ten years of experience and more than 2,300 performances, the ensemble is well known for their wide coverage of world music in the Rio Grande Valley which includes Andean, American and Latin American folk music. Aside from performing, front man, Adrián Foncerrada, will present his recently published poem book “Melancofilia.”
Ensamble La Mision will perform from 7-10 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 16 at Ruta Maya located on 3601 S. Congress Ave. Admission is $5 and children under 18 are free. For more information call (512) 767-8135.
