Gilberto Miguel Calderón, more famously known as “Joe Cuba,” was a Puerto Rican musician who achieved great success in the 1960s with his signature Latin Boogaloo sound. To many, Joe Cuba was considered to be “The Father” of the hybrid genre that blends mambo, R&B, son montuno and even soul. In 1999, Joe Cuba was inducted to the Latin Music Hall Of Fame. He was also the director of the Museum of La Salsa, located in Spanish Harlem, Manhattan, New York. The Fania Records track we are sharing with you today is from Joe Cuba’s popular album Bang Bang Push Push titled “Sock It To Me.”
