Los Hollywood is a three-piece rock band from San Diego whose front woman, Heidy, is constantly compared to or referred to as the Latina Gwen Stefani. There is no doubt (pun intended) that the comparisons will ever stop. Heidy’s voice sounds similar, she is also from Southern California and even her personal style of dress resembles Stefani a little. Backed by two talented musicians (Gustavo and Marcos), who more like brothers to Heidy, Los Hollywood is soon to become a household name amongst U. S. Latinos. Having already won the Los Angeles region Myspace Latino contest in which Myspace sponsored the band last year, this year they finally released their first EP on Itunes on Cinco De Mayo. The self titled EP has their single “No Te Aguites”, which they also shot a video for last fall. “No Te Aguites” is a radio friendly, pop rock track that sounds like nineties No Doubt in Spanglish. However, the real gem on the EP is “Gira Gira”. I think the sound of “Gira Gira” could potentially propel Los Hollywood to Latin indie rock royalty status if they were to go that direction with a full album. It’s the song that will have all the American Apparel wearing Hip-spanics dancing from here to New York. As for the other tracks on the short EP, they are decent fillers but do not measure up to “Gira Gira” or “No Te Aguites”. Like Shakira, Los Hollywood’s music is best when done in Spanish.
