Puerto Rican Folkloric Dance & Cultural Center to host Taino Earth Celebration

Taino Earth celebrationThe Puerto Rican Folkloric Dance and Cultural Center (PRFDance) will be hosting the Taino Earth Celebration on Apr. 13 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Activities will include planting with natural an recycled resources, making crafts, hosting nature’s messages, and playing the Taino ballgame—Batu.

El Concilio Taino Guatu Ma-cu A Boriken in Tejas is organizing this event to educate the public on Taino traditions and the importance of taking care of the earth. Their nature’s message includes “When Nature Sings!” which is an interactive workshop that is sponsored and funded by the City of Austin. The Taino Earth Celebration will end with Areyto Guaytiao, a Taino friendship dance.

Founded in 1997, PRF Dance is a non-profit cultural center affiliated with the Institute of Puerto Rican Culture for ongoing and authentic cultural programming. According to their website, their mission is to promote cultural awareness and pride through performances, cultural events, and high-quality education programs based in the folkloric performing arts.
