Houston-based playwright, poet and author Geraldo Olivo formerly served as director of compliance for one of the top campaign finance and election law firms in Washington, D.C. Olivo worked alongside the attorneys who guided the political operations for some of the most influential and elite groups in American politics, including MoveOn.org and the Democratic National Committee. Olivo is in Austin this weekend for a three-day run of his new studio production of his play, The Bullfighter.
Directed by Jenny Gravenstein, The Bullfighter is a play that delves into the underworld of presidential politics. The play is about a mathematical genius, homeless and delusional after the disappearance of his true love, who becomes entangled in a shadow political group’s attempt to sway a pivotal presidential election in return for a chance to see her again.
The Bullfighter will be performed at Blue Theatre on July 29-31. Blue Theatre is located at 916 Springdale Rd. There will be a talk-back/reception with playwright, actors, and director following each performance. A video promotional trailer for the play can be found on Facebook: www.facebook.com/iamthebullfighter. Advance tickets are available here. For reservations call (512) 682-3220.
