Latinitas is hosting photography showcase El Mundo de Ella: A Journey Through Text and Texture to portray positive and successful role models young Latinas can look up to.
As a way to counter the negative, so called, role models girls are bombarded with on a daily basis; Latinitas is helping girls realize what makes a real role model through photography, text and texture that represent good values, dreams and beauty. After choosing their favorite photos, guest judges Karla Leal, Telemundo Austin’s anchor, and international rock en Español publishers Maria Madrigal and Emilio Morales will award prizes to the top five photographers in the organization’s 20 after school programs. The showcase will be held on Saturday, Dec. 10, from 3-6 p.m. at East Village Café located at 1111 A Chicon St.
The showcase is just one of many events the non-profit organization puts together to encourage and empower young Latinas to achieve success through digital media. What began as a class assignment six years ago, Latinitas is the first digital magazine that is made for and young Latinas. The organization has served more than 20,000 girls through its digital education programs.
