12/8 Show Picks: La Guerrilla and Ritmo 3

December 8, 2009 By Austin Vida Staff

Tuesdays are now the new Fridays, as it has every week with World Music Night at Momo’s, presented by K.U.T. and Bemba Entertainment. Every Tuesday promoter Brandon Badillo has booked not only good Latin bands, but also bands that play music from all over the world. The last time some of the staff was at Momo’s we enjoyed a set from a group that played Indian music, sitar and all.

Tonight at Momo’s, Badillo has booked Latin Fusion group, La Guerrilla. With a new album due in 2010, La Guerrilla is one of the better up and comers on the Austin music scene. Having won over crowds from Red River to East Austin, their live set is gaining quite the reputation in town. La Guerrilla incorporates percussion, brass and even violin with their South American inspired rhythms. Catch them early at 8:00pm. Playing with La Guerrilla will be The Batikum and Wino Vino. Momo’s is located at 618 W. 6th Street.

For those of you salseros, Ritmo 3 is playing at Cedar Street located at 208 W. 4th. We last saw these guys at Xemumba Fest and they sounded really good. They disprove the misconception that Austin doesn’t have good salsa bands. Lead by Joseph Duran, Ritmo 3 is a salsa staple in Austin. Having played everywhere from Ruta Maya to Copa and everywhere in between, they always get their audiences to the dance floor. You will hearing more about Ritmo 3 from Austin Vida in 2010. be sure to be on the lookout for that. For now, check out this live video of Ritmo 3 from Xemumba Fest 2009.
