Discovery en Español investigates the latest migrant route in their new original production titled Colombia: La Nueva Frontera. It will premiere tonight at 10 p.m. EST during Discovery a Fondo, an investigative documentary series that works to expose issues concerning Hispanic audiences.

Colombia: La Nueva Frontera explores how this route, which starts off in Ecuador, has become fundamental for immigrants trying to get to the United States. The route moves on to Colombia to jump-start the dangerous journey in search of the American Dream. Immigrants from Bangladesh, Nepal, and Cuba mainly frequent the route and it is estimated by Colombian authorities that in 2014 more than 1,700 undocumented migrants were detained there while trying to make it to the United States.

The documentary dives into the story of Tony, a man from Cuba trying to get from Quito to the Gulf of Urabá, near Colombia’s border with Panama, with the help from a coyote called “Gregorio.” Colombia: La Nueva Frontera reveals the dangers migrants face along the route. This includes a network of highly profitable international human trafficking and the counter-operations from immigrant patrols and the Colombian Navy.

Discovery en Español is co-producing this documentary with Caracol Televisión. Discovery en Español serves to connect Spanish-speaking viewers in the United States to the world. For more information on Discovery en Español and “Colombia: la nueva frontera” visit their website discoveryenespanol.com.

Chico Trujillo to release ‘Reina de Todas las Fiestas’ in June

May 28, 2015 By Estefania de Leon

Chico TrujilloChilean cumbia group Chico Trujillo is set to release their new album, Reina de Todas Las Fiestas on June 23. This follows up their 2012 album El gran pecador. The album was recorded in Colombia, Mexico, Argentina and Chile and aims at creating a pan Latin-American sound. Their past music included a lot of cumbia-based influences but is evolving to incorporate a variety of cultures into Chile’s past through their songs.

Reina de Todas Las Fiestas includes collaborations with Banda Wiracocha, a 30-piece brass ensemble, and Argentinean rockers Kevin Johansen and Álvaro Henriquez of Los Tres. The new record is trying to redefine the South American identity through a universal understanding that is not confined by its Chilean roots or cumbia. They are doing this by incorporating Argentinean slang, Mexican ranchera, and rock to an Andean edge that aims to put an emphasis on Northern Chile’s carnival music.

Chico Trujillo is from Villa Aleman, a small town a few miles from Valparaiso, Chile. Founded in 1999, they have become one of Chile’s most important orchestras. There are eight members which include Juan Gronemeyer on drums and percussion, Michael Magliocchetti on voice and guitar, Tuto Vargas on bass, Sebastian Cabezas on trumpet, Tio Rodi on percussion, Luis Tabilo on trombone, Felita on the saxophone, and Macha Asenjo on guitar and voice.

Earlier today Austin-based punkeros Sober Daze released their new skate/music video for “Live To Shred.” The single is their first from their forthcoming 7” split with San Antonio’s Knockin’ Chucks, scheduled for an April release from the group’s own Dazed Records. The 7″ will be made available in both vinyl and digital download formats.

Sober Daze was formed in Puerto Rico in 2002 by friends Peter Figueroa, Alex “Korn” Rivera, and Chris “Fatty” Bourcy. Shortly after they moved to Austin in 2003, they became notorious for their punk rock house parties with half pipe skateboard ramps and a tree house bar in their back yard at one point. The group currently performs as a four piece thanks to their addition of guitarist Alex “Rager” Loughborough in 2013.

Those in Austin can see Sober Daze live at the Punk Vs. Rockabilly 5 showcase on Mar. 16 at Flamingo Cantina and at the Eastside Throwdown Day Party on Mar. 20 at The Sahara Lounge.

Watch “Live To Shred” from Sober Daze below. Listen to more music from Sober Daze on Bandcamp.
