On Saturday, June 29, Grupo Fantasma performed a headlining concert at The Belmont. Austin-based Latin fusion band Como Las Movies, which features former members of Maneja Beto, opened the show. Both bands utilized the visual projector behind the stage while performing. Both groups commissioned  VJ 4th Wall to project psychedelic and vintage Latin-inspired images to accompany their music.

Austin Vida photographer Mari Hernandez was at The Belmont on Saturday to capture the live photos below.

Los Lobos live at ACL Live on Friday, Jan. 18 (photo by Mari Hernandez)

ACL Live and the Pachanga Latino Music Festival, the Latin-themed music, cultural arts and food festival, have created a co-branded Latin music series to be held at ACL Live throughout 2013. The series started on Friday, January 18,  with East Los Angeles legends Los Lobos supported by Los Texmaniacs. The concert was a rare “Acoustic En Vivo” peformance for the group who performed fan favorites such as “Kiko and the Lavander Moon” to classic bolero covers like “Sabor a Mi.”

Austin Vida staff photographer Mari Hernandez was at ACL Live on Friday to capture the live photos below.

Photos: Latin acts at Austin City Limits Festival 2012

October 16, 2012 By Mari Hernandez

Martín Perna of Antibalas (photo by Mari Hernández)

Once again this year’s ACL Fest was light on Latino presence, but heavy on quality when it came to the three Latin bands the festival promoters did book. All three bands were bands that rarely perform in Austin, and two were internationally based. The Latin bands that performed Saturday included Costa Rican tropical funk band Sonambulo, the colorful Venezuelan indie-punk band La Vida Bohème and Brooklyn-based Afrobeat band Antibalas.

Judging by the response of the mostly non-Latino crowd to these three bands, it seems that the two weekend event in 2013 should have more Latin flavor added to the mix. It would make an already musically diverse and enjoyable festival more lively, especially given our Latino population here in Texas. Austin Vida staff photographer Mari Hernández was at the festival to capture live photos of all the action.

Photo Recap: Molotov at Emo’s East

October 1, 2011 By Mari Hernandez

Mexico City Alt-rock icons Molotov made a rare Austin appearance at the new Emo’s East on Riverside Drive Thursday night. This was the first time Emo’s East played host to a Latin Alternative touring act. With an epic new sound system and an odd House of Blues type of vibe typically not associated with the name “Emo’s,” Molotov’s live show rocked the mostly Mexican crowd so hard that it felt almost as if everyone was still on Red River. It just goes to show that Emo’s is still Emo’s despite the address change.

Austin Vida photographer Mari Hernandez was on hand Thursday night to capture their set in photos.  Austin Latin fusion band Este Vato opened the show. Click on the thumbnails to enlarge the photos.
