[12/7] Preview: Austin Vida presents: Hydra Melody, Distrutalo! & Politics at Frank

As 2012 comes to a close, we wanted to present one more showcase with some of the best Texas-based indie bands we could find. We combed Texas to bring you young Latino indie bands that make us proud of our cultura. In addition to the live music, we will be giving away gift cards to Austin’s purveyor of the artisan sausage and hosting venue, Frank.

Opening the show will be Austin-based Politics. The indie quartet is made up of four Latino musicians from El Paso, Texas and most often get comparisons to popular indie bands like Interpol. After kicking off the year with our indie Free Week showcase in January, the band had a big 2012 performing at their first ever Pachanga Fest and being featured on the popular Austin-based live music video series The Good Music Club. Politics perform at 10 p.m.

Performing their first Austin Vida showcase is Houston-based progressive space-rockers Disfrutalo!. The band formed in 2009 by three of the four remaining members of “Special Lady Friend,” a Houston band now in hiatus created by Rolando Fontalvo and the late Aaron Herrera. Recently Disfrutalo! recorded their first official EP with Ikey Owens of The Mars Volta/Free Moral Agents. Disfrutalo! perform at 11 p.m.

Headlining will be Austin Vida staff favorite Hydra Melody. We introduced Austin Vida readers to the San Antonio-based sextet in 2009. Often compared to popular bands such as Cursive or Minus The Bear, Hydra Melody fuses together elements of melodic indie rock with progressive rock and is backed with Latin percussion. Hydra Melody perform at midnight.

Frank is located at 407 Colorado Street. Doors open at 9:00pm. Cover is $6.  All ages are welcome. Visit the event page on Do512 here. For reduced cover, RSVP at our Austin Vida Facebook event page for this show here. We will also be pulling one name from the RSVP list and awarding them with admission for two and a $20 Frank gift card. Thanks to our media sponsors Red River Noise and SATX Music.
