[1/31] Preview: “Cumbiamba” at Flamingo Cantina

Cumbiamba Jan 31Once again tonight the place to be for cumbia lovers in Austin is 6th street live music venue Flamingo Cantina. Three of Austin’s best Latin bands are coming together for night dedicated to celebrating the popular Colombian-based genre with a live music showcase aptly titled “Cumbiamba.” Long story short, cumbia and more cumbia all night long.

Austin’s La Frenetika offers an array of covers and original music that fuses elements of Colombian style cumbia, vallenato, gozadera and other traditional Latin rhythms. Expect lots of dancing, great crowd of regulars and big sound.

El Tule is a longtime staple in the Latin music community in Austin. Their lyrics are about history, art and culture often focus on legends and tales of the mystical. Their music blends elements of salsa, merengue, cumbia and reggae set to Spanish lyrics.

Huerta Culture takes its name from Huerta Street in South Austin where for years a core group of friends got together to jam and lay down rhythms, sometimes hosting after parties for local and traveling musicians. Their music blends elements of reggae, ska, traditional Latin rhythms such as cumbia and combines them with socially conscious lyrics.

Flamingo Cantina is located at 515 E. 6th Street. Doors open at 9 p.m. 21+ welcome. $7 cover. Visit the Facebook event page here.
