Los Angeles-based record label Nacional Records is bringing its unique and critically-acclaimed sounds to South By Southwest on Friday, March 16, with an official showcase at Maggie Mae’s. The show will be open to anyone with a festival badge or wristband. Music starts at 8:00pm. Maggie Mae’s is located at 323 East 6th Street.
The showcase line-up features four of the label’s most buzzed about bands – La Vida Bohème, who were recently nominated for a 2012 Grammy for Best Latin Pop, Rock or Urban Album; newly signed indie darlings Loquat, whom Spin magazine called “sultry”, Chilean indie rockers Astro, and Ritmo Machine, the collaboration between Beastie Boys/Cypress Hill percussionist Eric Bobo and renowned turntablist Latin Bitman.
The bill also includes two remarkable special guests – 3BallMTY and Monsieur Periné. 3BallMTY is the teenaged tribal guarachero (indigenous Mexican and African sounds mixed with cumbia basslines), features prodigy Erick Rincón and his two best-buddies, Sheeqo Beat and DJ Otto. Monsieur Periné is a Colombian indie rock band that has turned heads in their home country with their unique fashions, catchy songs and eclectic beats.
