[7/12] Preview: Angel Ferrer; The Daylight Sessions at Lucky Lounge

Angel Ferrer July 12Saturday, July 12, Chris Perez band frontman and long time Austinite Angel Ferrer will be performing at Lucky Lounge. The Puerto Rican rockero, who was once a member of Austin-based modern rock bands Ill Camino and Vallejo, is reviving his soulful Daylight Sessions project.

In 2009, Ferrer’s Daylight Sessions project was a regular at the Warehouse District bar. As much as he loved the soul project, at that time he was waiting on “the call” from Grammy winner Chris Pérez (yes, Selena’s widower) to start recording, touring, performing, etc. as his new lead vocalist. Once he got the call, Ferrer shelved the Daylight Sessions project for the time being.

Today Ferrer seems to some time available to perform his music in Austin again, even pulling his brother Alberto Ferrer to play bass with him on Saturday. The Daylight Sessions music you’ll hear is modern soul music more reminiscent of early Maxwell, rather than early Motown like the current crop of soul bands in Austin today. The music contains elements of jazz and funk which accompany Ferrer’s smooth vocals. No power-rock vocals for this set. It is perfect music for couples, date nights and making babies. You’ve been warned.

Lucky Lounge is located in the Warehouse District at 209 W. 5th Street. Music starts at 8 p.m. 21+ welcome. No Cover. Listen to music from Angel Ferrer; Daylight Sessions below. For more on Ferrer, read this in-depth interview from 2009 here.
