On Thursday, Sept. 26, The Sahara Lounge hosts a great night of Austin-based Latin music. The popular east side venue will feature Latin-pop bands Manzanas Malas and rock en Español band Kalua. While distinctly different in sound, both bands compliment each other well.
Showcase opener’s Manzanas Malas (Los Bad Apples) feature lead singer and frontwoman Victoria Acosta of American Idol fame (season 12). Also an experienced mariachi singer, Acosta is backed by a talented group of musicians and DJ Villa. Their music fuses elements of American pop with traditional Latin rhythms such as cumbia, salsa and Tejano. Manzanas Malas perform at 9 p.m.
Austin-based rock band Kalua follow Manzanas Malas on Thursday night. The young trio is no stranger to the Austin music scene despite not performing as often as they used to. Composed of drummer Andres Acevedo and brothers Juan and Sam Díaz, Kalua draws influences from some of the original rock en Español greats like Maná, Jaguares and Caifanes. Kalua performs at 10:30 p.m.
The Sahara Lounge is located at 1413 Webberville. Doors open at 8:30 p.m. Music starts at 9 p.m. 21+ are welcome. $5 cover. Visit the Facebook event page here.
