[3/15-3/16] Preview: Pan Americana Festival 2013

This weekend the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center (ESB-MACC) and Bellas Artes Alliance will present the third annual Panamericana Fest. The free, two-day event will feature some of the world’s best Latin alternative along with local and regional acts for all to see during South by Southwest. With a stacked lineup from top to bottom, this year’s event boasts the biggest name headliners Monterrey, Mexico has to offer.

Friday night Celso Piña, also known as “El Rebelde del Acordeón,” is one of the early adopters of what we now refer to as “Latin fusion.” Piña’s music incorporates elements of norteño, sonidero, ska, reggae, hip hop and R&B. Piña will also be a performer at this year’s Pachanga Latino Music Fest in May.

On Saturday night, Indie-electro rockers Kinky return to a proper Austin stage after performing last winter at Stubb’s indoor on a random Monday night. Their Spanglish mix of rock, dance and techno has made its way into movie soundtracks, TV commercials, FIFA and multiple music festivals, like Coachella and of course South by Southwest. Kinky is performing in support of their latest Latin Grammy nominated album, Sueño de la máquina.

Other noteworthy performers include London-based Colombian DJ/producer Isa GT and  Colombian singer-songwriter Duina Del Mar. Austin’s biggest and baddest Latin band Grupo Fantasma will also be performing on Friday night. See full lineup and set times below.
