The movimiento is in full effect once again for 2013. Local Latin rock collective Movimiento Rockero and Austin Vida are teaming up to bring you the best in local, regional and national Latin rock each month at Frank. The first of the monthly series begins tomorrow night, Feb. 21.
Opening the showcase are Austin-based melodic-pop rock band Boca Abajo, a feature performer from our 2013 Free Week showcase and Movimiento Rockero showcase regular. The quintet is composed of family members (cousins, brothers, nephews) and performing in support of their latest release, Otro Verso. Arrive early as Boca Abajo will be shooting their next music video tomorrow night before and during their set. Boca Abajo take the stage at 10 p.m.
Long time Austin favorite, Vitera may be the only group around that mixes classic ’80s style Rock en Español and modern rock with a violin. Fronted by Movimiento Rockero leader Haydn Vitera, the group’s sound aims to bring back an arena rock feel with a Latin twist for all to enjoy. Vitera is performing in support of their latest album, ¡Súbete! and take the stage at 11 p.m.
Joining the showcase and closing the night out is Houston-based Dani Vargas Group. The instrumental rock-fusion trio formed in the summer of 2010. Founded by Chilean guitarist Danilo Vargas, the group also consists of musicians Moises Zapata (drums) and Carlos Soriano (bass). The group will be performing new songs from their new release Sound On Canvas. Dani Vargas Group perform at midnight.
