Although born in San Juan, Puerto Rico to Cuban parents, singer-songwriter Joel Nuñez grew up in the U.S. and South America. Spending much of his young life in Chile and Peru, it was in South America where he was exposed to different kinds of genres including Latin rock, traditional Andean folk, blues and jazz. Along the way he played the trombone in the school orchestra and learned how to play the guitar to Nirvana riffs while playing the drums in a ska band. After spending some time in Mississippi to study music, the multi-instrumentalist eventually moved to Miami to pursue his music career where a car accident almost made him lose his right hand. After multiple operations and many years later, Nuñez continues to persevere and recently debuted a music video.
In a couple of months Nuñez is set to release his debut album. Until then, the music video for his single “Cuando Se Cree” will have to suffice for fans. Originally performed in Spanish and written in collaboration with Andrew Gonzalez, “Cuando Se Cree” is also available in English as “When You Believe.” While the original version was produced by Ahmed Barroso, the song’s digital offerings include English and Spanish dance remixes from producer Jim Jonsin, known for working with Pitbull, Lil Wayne and Beyonce.
