Hitting Starbucks this summer is a little piece of Latin talent. Nacional Records and Starbucks bring attention to the Latin Alternative music scene with their latest collaboration Café Con Música, a compilation available only at Starbucks from June 19 – July 16.
The album features a sample of Latino artists from all over representing different genres. It includes everything from Colombia’s electronic cumbia to Spanish indie rock and even tropicalia from Germany. With a mix of English and Spanish lyrics, the album is just a little taste of what the genre currently has to offer, especially to those that aren’t familiar with Latin Alternative. The 16-track compilation features Grammy nominated musicians such as Colombian rock band Aterciopeados, Venezuelan funksters Los Amigos Invisibles, Mexican electronic DJs Nortec Collective Presents: Bostich + Fussible and Chilean MC Ana Tijoux among others.
Produced by Nacional Records, known as a leading source of new Latin sounds with 29 Grammy and Latin Grammy wins and nominations, the collaboration with Starbucks shows the changing trend in demographics as Latinos become the majority. The wide range of music in the compilation also demonstrates the increase in the Latin bi-cultural background where it’s only natural for such fusions to occur.
