Girl In A Coma was born the night Nina Diaz (vocals/guitar) sang for her older sister, Phanie Diaz (drums), and friend Jenn Alva (bass). Playing at a birthday party was just the start for the San Antonio-based indie trio who is now signed to Joan Jett’s label. In addition to having their music featured on Robert Rodriguez’s film, Machete, the band has opened for Morrissey, Sia, Tegan and Sara, The Pogues and Amanda Palmer.
After a successful West Coast tour in support of their latest album, Exits & All the Rest, Girl In A Coma, having already made a stop in Austin for the Pachanga Latino Music Festival, heads to the East Coast and Midwest this summer. With only one stop in Wisconsin so far, most of the tour will happen in July and August and wrap up in Texas. No Austin dates have been confirmed but we will keep you posted. The album recently won Best Independent/Alternative Rock Album for the Independent Music Awards and was named one of National Public Radio’s 2011’s best albums.
