[9/5] Preview: Movimiento Rockero showcase at Antone’s

Movimiento Rockero is a group of Austin-based Latin rock and alternative bands uniting to raise awareness and support for the genre in Austin and beyond. The collective debuted in 2011 with Thursday night showcases at Ruta Maya on South Congress. This year the showcases moved to Wednesday nights at the legendary Austin music venue Antone’s. The next Movimiento Rockero showcase will be Wednesday, September 5.

Wednesday night’s headliner will be Movimiento Rockero co-founder Vitera. A long time Austin favorite, Vitera may be the only group around that mixes classic ’80s style rock en Español and modern rock with a violin. Vitera is performing in support of their latest album, ¡Súbete!.

Joining Vitera Wednesday will be Houston’s Los Guerreros De La Musica. Formed in February 2009, the group is composed of experienced musicians who came from other previous bands from all walks of life. Their sound falls under the Latin fusion genre, incorporating elements of rock, ska, reggae and traditional Latin rhythms. Los Guerreros De La Musica performs at 10:15 p.m.

Also Wednesday night, there will be a Latino open mic from 9-10 p.m. Sign ups will go fast so attendees interested in performing during the open mic time block are encouraged to arrive early. Early arrival is encouraged for all as drinks will be half price from 8-9 p.m.

Antone’s is located at 213 West 5th St. All ages are welcome. Doors open at 8 p.m. and the show starts at 9 p.m. Advance tickets are available here. Cover will be $7 at the door. Visit the event page on Do512 here.
