[8/31] Preview: “Women in Latin Music” showcase at Mexitas

Tonight the Austin Latino Music Association (ALMA) plays host to the third annual “Women in Latin Music” showcase at Mexitas Mexican Restaurant. ALMA has produced a variety of music programs over the years, all in hope of increasing awareness of and supporting Austin’s Latino Music scene. Organized by ALMA board member Liz Lopez, the “Women in Latin Music” showcase evolved from ALMA’s 2009 “Celebrating Selena” showcase and highlights Austin-based female bands and musicians.

According to ALMA’s website, tonight’s performers include Patricia Vonne, Son Armado featuring Joanne Saucedo, the all female Mariachi Las Tejanitas, and La Frenetika, featuring Areli Zayonara del Bosque. Also invited to perform were female contestants who auditioned for the 2012 Austin Tejano Music Coalition’s Canta vocal competition.

Mexitas Mexican Restaurant is located at 1107 IH-35. Event begins at 7 p.m. All ages welcome. $10 suggested donation. Parking lot is located on 12th and IH-35.
