Our sister site, Red River Noise, and our friends from Ultra 8201 are presenting an incredible indie showcase tonight at Hotel Vegas. Two of the bands happen to be some of the region’s hottest young Latino bands to hit the indie scene and the other is an Austin tastemaker favorite. The East 6th hangout is the perfect setting for discovering some of the best bands Austin has to offer.
San Antonio’s atmospheric-indie rockers Pop Pistol return to Austin to open the showcase. The Texas Is Funny Records artist recently released their debut album Angelus on vinyl and are currently working on writing new material to be released very soon. In March the band received the honor of “Best Indie Band” from San Antonio’s alt-weekly newspaper, San Antonio Current. Pop pistol perform at 10 p.m.
Following Pop Pistol will be the popular Austin-based indie-punk band The White White Lights (TWWL). Fronted by the dynamic Jenny Gacy, TWWL combine the best of angsty alt-rock with electronic synths and the whirling guitar shredding of member Jonas Wilson (formerly of Lomita). Their debut EP Medium Head Boy received great reviews from music critiques everywhere and the band was recently featured in the movie Echotone. TWWL perform at 11 p.m.
Austin-based Politics are the night’s headliners. They are just coming off their first ever Pachanga Fest performance and have recently been featured on the popular live music video series The Good Music Club. Often compared to bands like Interpol, Politics are four Latinos who play a brand of indie that is melodic but also includes thumping bass lines. Politics perform at midnight in support of their debut release Cities.
