We’ve come to know Pop Pistol pretty well over the past year. We have featured the San Antonio-based atmospheric indie band on multiple Austin Vida showcases, including a fall showcase with Making Movies and our Indie Latino Free Week showcase in January.
This week the trio—composed of cousins Alex Scheel on guitar/vocals and George Garza on bass, along with high school friend Jorge Gonzalez on drums—may have had their best week ever as a band. Pop Pistol was voted as San Antonio’s best indie rock band in the Current, the city’s alt-weekly newspaper (their equivalent of the Austin Chronicle). In addition to winning the indie category, they also grace the newspaper’s cover, pictured to the left.
San Antonio’s best indie band will be returning to Austin this Saturday, March 31, to perform at the Red River Noise showcase at Frank. Also on the bill are indie-pop songstress Rebecca Butler and the Richards and Austin alt-rockers The Soldier Thread. For complete details, visit the Facebook event page here and on Do512 here.
