(1/13) Preview: Money Chicha & Hard Proof Afrobeat at The Sahara

Money Chicha is yet another one of the many side projects of  Grupo Fantasma member Adrian Quesada, whom you may also know from Brownout, Ocote Soul Sounds or The Echocentrics. Money Chicha is Quesada’s Chicha, or Peruvian inspired cumbia, music project. The group incorporates elements of psych-rock, fuzzy guitar riffs, and reverb with heavy percussion to go with the the traditional Chicha sound.

Hard Proof Afrobeat is Austin’s best known Afrobeat group. You might recognize some of the members from Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears, but these guys hold their own with Hardproof. The group takes heavy horns and blends them with funky polyrhythms, tropical and mystical undertones. They prove Afrobeat is alive and well in the Live Music Capital.

Money Chicha and Hard Proof Afrobeat will be performing a show together at The Sahara Lounge, formerly the historic TC’s Lounge, on Friday, January 13. The Sahara Lounge is located at 1413 Webberville Rd. Doors open at 9:00pm. Cover will be $7. Parking is free. Visit the official Facebook event page here and on Do512 here.
