Preview: Austin Vida & Bemba Entertainment April 2011 Showcase

Austin Vida and Bemba Entertainment are collaborating once again after a year hiatus to bring you a spring Latin Alternative Series. We wanted to feature new local artists, international artists and great national touring acts. For our first show we presented three different bands with eclectic sounds, everything from hip hop to rock to traditional Latin American rhythms.  The next showcase in the series happens on Friday, April 8 at Flamingo Cantina.

Latin Fusion specialists and Austin Vida showcase veterans, Este Vato, get the party started with their original hybrid genre that includes elements of rock, cumbia, hip hop and funk. With lyrics in both English and Spanish, a newly added brass section, these vatos have added to their already enjoyable live show. Este Vato perform at 10:00pm.

Bilingual indie band Making Movies released their new single “Sirena” as a free download which we shared with you previously. Now Making Movies’ are releasing their album, In Deo Speramos, and giving it away for free in anticipation of the show. The band’s eclectic sound has landed them gigs alongside Latin Grammy winners and indie darlings alike (Aterciopelados and Delta Spirit namely) as well as praise from national media outlets (NPR Weekend Edition, AOL Musica among others). Austin Vida featured the band in late 2010 with a feature  interview and live filming at Momo’s. Making Movies perform at 11:15pm.

The incredible Master Blaster are coming all the way from Corpus Christi,Texas to close the night out with their danceable crunk influenced cumbia and bass heavy Norteño blends.  D.J. Dus and Cecy Trevino join Brian Ramos (Charanga Cakewalk, Kanko, formerly of Grupo Fantasma) for a long awaited return to Austin. Master Blaster have performed at Pachanga Fest and performed with the popular Austin DJ collective, Peligrosa All-Star DJs. Performing in support of their self titled EP, the group is at the forefront of bridging the divide between the live band, DJ and cumbia underground cultures. Master Blaster perform at 12:30am.

The Flamingo Cantina is located at 515 East 6th Street. Doors open at 9:00pm. Show is 18+. $8 cover. Visit the official event page on Facebook here and on Do512 here.
