The Puro Chingon Social Club presents ‘Y Tu Mamá También’ at The North Door

The North Door invites movie-goers to their Free Film Tuesday’s event that includes props, trivia, and prizes. The new hosts that will be presenting Latino-themed films and programs is The Puro Chingon Social Club. On Tuesday, Feb. 12, join them as they present Y Tu Mamá También.

The Puro Chingon Social Club is a relatively new addition to the North Door’s Free Film Tuesday family. The club was formed by the Puro Chingon Collective, an Austin Art Collective that works in specializing on zines, interactive theater, and public art interactions. They’ve recently created ChingoZine, which is an art zine that promotes aspiring Latino artists. Although the group is new, Puro Chingon Collective has been in collaboration with Free and Queer Cinema for the screening of Mi Vida Loca.

There will be plenty of fun activities during and after the screening of Y Tu Mamá También. Everyone attending the event will receive a Mexican vocabulary list, props, and a chance to participate in trivia contest. If trivia contests aren’t your thing, you can test your luck with their drinking contest. 21+ participants only for the drinking contest. Prizes will be provided by Treasure City Thrift and the first five people that arrive for the event will receive a free, signed ChingoZine. If you happen to be number six and so on, ChingoZine will be available for purchase.

The film, Y Tu Mamá También, is a story about two best friends, Julio (Gael García Bernal) and Tenoch (Diego Luna) who explore the temptation of travel and lust. When they encounter an older Spanish beauty, Luisa (Maribel Verdú) they find themselves experiencing a whole new world of temptation. The trio embarks on an adventure where the beach is their destination. Julio and Tenoch have a rare friendship that becomes tested when they learn about life, sex, and betrayal. The 2001 film captures a rarity on Mexican culture on the two teens who are not only figuring life out but the changing politics of their country.

The North Door is located at 501 Brushy St., next to the IH-35 frontage road. The building is located on the corner of the road. The screening will take place at the main stage. Doors open at 7 p.m and the show starts at 8 p.m. There is no cover. Beverages are sold to 21+ attendees. For more updates on the event visit their Facebook event page or The North Door’s website.
