[8/6] Preview: The Puro Chingon Social Club presents ‘Cheech and Chong Up in Smoke’

The North Door invites movie-goers to their weekly film series Free Film Tuesdays. Tonight the appropriately named Latino collective, The Puro Chingon Social Club, is joining forces with BC Smokeshop for the classic film favorite Cheech and Chong’s Up in Smoke.

The Puro Chingon Social Club was formed by the Puro Chingon Collective, an Austin Art Collective that works in specializing on zines, interactive theater and public art interactions. They’ve created a ChingoZine, which is an art zine that promotes and inspires aspiring Latino artists.

As for the movie, you probably know it is about two stoners, Cheech and Chong, carelessly smuggling a van filled with marijuana from Mexico to L.A. But of course, they are being followed by Sgt. Stedenko, who’s on to their “scheme” and yet he’s just as oblivious as Cheech and Chong. The film stars Cheech Marin, Tommy Chong and Arthur Roberts.

Doors open at 7 p.m. BC Smokeshop is treating its guests with giveaways, and along with the free interactive screening, Puro Chingon is also providing prizes, goodies and props for the film. Drink specials will also be available. For more information or updates about the event visit the Facebook event or the North Door’s website.
