Serie Project launches new membership program

The Serie Project is a nonprofit that is dedicated to offering free printmaking facilities as well as training and housing for 8 to 15 artists per year through the Artist in Residence (AIR) program. They are devoted to the art of serigraphy which is a technique that produces original, hand-pulled prints in addition to promoting and exhibiting the work of Latino and other underrepresented artists, and making prints affordable to the community.

Founded in 1993 by Austin artist Sam Coronado, the Serie Project is celebrating their 20th year. This year the artists participating in the 2013 Serie XX Artis in Residence Program include Farley Bookout, Margarita Cabrera, Paul del Bosque, Ana Teresa Fernandez, Sandra C. Fernandez, Nahum Flores, Rigoberto A. Gonzalez, Salvador Lopez, Oscar Magallanes, Michael Marshall, Stephanie Mercado, Brian Phillips, Patricia Tinajero, George Yepes, and Ernesto Yerena.

Since their foundation 20 years ago, they have relied heavily on city grants for their monetary needs, however, funding has gone down in the past years. In order to help the continuation of the Serie Project, a new membership program is being launched this month to allow members to help financially support the organization. Membership starts at $25 and goes up to $1,000. Members receive certain benefits such as discounts, discounts on merchandise, and more.
