Walk of Heroes ceremony & mosaic unveiling honoring César Chávez at Southwest Key Programs

Southwest Key Programs and People Organized in Defense of Earth and Her Resources (PODER) are hosting a free celebration today from 9 a.m. to noon at their family center in East Austin. The event is touted as a Hispanic Heritage Month celebration that will honer César E. Chávez to the Walk of Heros.

The event’s featured speaker will be Arturo S. Rodriguez, the president of the United Farm Workers. Also scheduled to speak are Austin City Council Member Mike Martinez, U.S. Rep. Lloyd Doggett (D-Austin) and former State Sen. Gonzalo Barrientos.

Southwest Key Programs is located at at 6002 Jain Lane. All ages welcome. Complimentary continental breakfast provided. Entertainment will include ballet folklórico, spoken word from East Austin College Prep writers and poets along with the Austin Soundwaves Youth Choir. The festivities will conclude with the unveiling of an original mosaic featuring the image of Cesar Chavez by artist Rosalinda R. Toro. Visit the Facebook event page here.
